This book presents an in-depth analysis and critical assessment of the progress made by Buddhism after the passing away of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar on 6 December 1956. The first two chapters are of introductory nature and in the third chapter is discussed the denial of reservation benefit to the Neo-Buddhists by the Government of India immediately after the historic conversion ceremony at Nagpur on 14 October 1956. The next five chapters throw light on the role played by the Bhikkhu Sangha and Buddhist Societies in sustaining the revival movement; the growing Buddhist population in India, the impact of Buddhism on its new adherents; and description of the New Buddha Viharas.

The last three chapters deal with three specific topics, namely, the Renaming of the Marathwada University after Dr.Ambedkar; the Buddhist struggle to regain control of the Buddha Gaya Temple, and the arrival of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Tibetans in India.
